Imported from China, One Unit of Trackless Train to be Tested in IKN in August
The government will conduct a trial of the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART), or trackless train, in the new capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan. Regarding this, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) stated that they will import one train unit from China.
The Director General of Railways at Kemenhub, Mohamad Risal Wasal, said that the train import will only be done in the first year. The following year, the government will ask China to build a factory in Indonesia.
"ART is still owned by China. The plan is to import only in the first year, and in the second year we will request local content requirement (TKDN), to build a factory in Indonesia," Risal explained when met at RS PIP Makassar, Thursday (June 13, 2024).
In the first phase, the government will import one train set consisting of three carriages. The trial in August is part of the proof of concept.
"We are asking them to do a showcase, which will be the proof of concept in August," said Risal.
Previously, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi reviewed the progress of the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) or trackless train project in the new capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan.
Budi Karya explained that with the completion of the construction of the West Side National Axis Road, they plan to conduct a trial implementation of ART in the new capital in August 2024.
"Thank you to the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) for completing the construction of the West Side National Axis Road in the Central Government Core Area of IKN, one of which is for the ART track. God willing, with the existing track, ART can be tested in August," said Budi Karya in a written statement on Monday (June 3, 2024).
