Basuki Speaks Out on Rumors of Jokowi Cancelling Plans to Work in IKN

The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) and Acting Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, addressed rumors about President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) canceling plans to work in IKN this July.

Basuki stated that the preparation of supporting facilities and infrastructure in IKN will be completed this July. This means IKN is ready to welcome Jokowi to work there this month, as well as to accommodate guests and officials for the 79th Independence Day ceremony on August 17."July ends on the 31st. I've said from the beginning that by mid-July, water and electricity will be available. I just gathered the energy and communication teams. Telkom and PLN have reported that they will be ready by the end of this month," Basuki said at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (July 10, 2024).

According to Basuki, it's too early to conclude that the plan is canceled, considering July is still long. Besides, Jokowi himself never stated that the plan to work in IKN this July was canceled. So far, Jokowi has only asked the media about the readiness of the facilities in IKN. "He didn't say it was canceled, he just asked, 'Is it ready yet?' That's all. But it's only July 10 now, so there are still 20 days left," he added. Furthermore, Basuki detailed the main supporting facilities that the Ministry of PUPR is preparing in IKN. The first is drinking water facilities, which will begin commissioning or be connected to IKN on July 15. It is confirmed that this facility will be ready in July.

Next, telecommunications facilities like the internet and energy are also ready. Regarding electricity, according to the PLN report received by Basuki, the synchronization of the 10 Megawatt (MW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS) is ready, and the synchronization of 40 MW is currently in process."Then the gas for ASN Tower 4, ASN 2, and ASN 1 (is ready). There was a date mentioned (I forgot), but it will be within July," he continued.

As for the buildings, the Ministry Coordinating Offices 1 to 4 are also ready to operate on three floors. The Civil Servant Housing Towers (ASN) are also ready. Out of the total 47 towers, 12 towers are targeted to be ready by August. These facilities are ready to be used by the supporting staff for the 79th Independence Day ceremony there. To ensure its readiness, Basuki said that Jokowi plans to visit IKN at the end of July 2024. This visit will take place after Jokowi's trip to Papua on July 22.

"If you want to ask about the move, ask him. After the 20th, he will go to Papua on the 22nd to celebrate Children's Day. After that, he will likely go to IKN to check," he said.Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) mentioned that the water, electricity, and other infrastructures were not yet ready. He said that once everything is ready, he will immediately move to work in IKN. He has indeed been targeting to start working in IKN in July. "Is the water ready? Is the electricity ready? Is the place ready? If it's ready, I'll move," Jokowi said at Halim Perdanakusumah Air Base, East Jakarta, on Monday (July 8, 2024).

"I have received reports, but the infrastructure for water, electricity, and the place is not ready yet," he continued. This statement raised public questions about the continuation of his plan to work in IKN. However, looking back, Jokowi had expressed optimism about working in IKN in July. This was conveyed by Jokowi during his visit to IKN last June.

At that time, he said he was just waiting for clean water to be connected to IKN. Jokowi mentioned that the Sepaku Semoi Dam, which supplies water to IKN, had been inaugurated and was operational. Now it's just a matter of connecting the pump."I am very optimistic about the office. This is just waiting for one thing, water, in July. We inaugurated the water supply from the Sepaku Dam recently; we are just waiting for the pump to lift the water and channel it to the buildings and houses in the Nusantara capital," Jokowi said in the IKN State Palace area on Wednesday (June 5, 2024).
